Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO

It is a sad day for Apple fans as the visionary CEO of the richest technology company in the world resigns.  Steve Jobs tendered his resignation to the Board on Wednesday and they have since appointed current Chief Operating Officer Time Cook as CEO.  Jobs is not stepping away completely from the company with whom his name has become synonymous; he will continue as Chairman of the Board with immediate effect.

His reason for resigning was not made completely clear in the letter he submitted to the board.  He simply says, "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know.  Unfortunately, that day has come."

This had led to speculation about the state of Jobs' health.  Having previously battled with a type of pancreatic cancer, for which he underwent a liver transplant in 2009, it is possible the cancer could have returned.

Although Steve Jobs is very much the face of the company, Apple lays claim to some of the most talented individuals in the industry, so its future success is unlikely to falter.  Moreover, despite the fact that many internet marketing consultants consider Jobs to be the ultimate salesman; the likelihood is Apple products will still sell even without him at the helm.

Therefore, although it is sad to see one of the world's most famous CEOs resign, he will continue to be heavily involved in the company for the foreseeable future and Apple, will still be Apple.
