Campaign Focus

In the race to achieve profitable SERP's and come out as an industry leader, it is all too easy for any online campaign to lose focus however, as a business it is important to ensure that the focus of your SEO strategy remain clear at all times.

Your content will lead the way and be the billboard for your business, so ask yourself, what is the purpose of the content you are producing? are you providing a service to your audience or creating optimised drivel? Your website and your overall online presence must be of a high quality and of great relevance if you are going to continue achieving those natural links.

  • Is your content truly promoting the nature of your business?
  • Does your content draw in your customers for all the right reasons?
  • Will the content you produce be worthy enough to warrant external links?

It is all too easy to get lost in ranking, SERP's and onsite visits but keep your audience in mind with whatever you do, as it is the quality of your onsite presence that will continue to pave the way to business success.

Don't Get Cocky

It is safe to state that the temptation to try something new is always at the back of our minds and never more so when implementing an online marketing strategy but don't stray too far from home!

The classic methods of building an online strategy are referred to as classics for a reason so continue to embrace them as they have proven success:

  • Successful keyword research from the word go
  • Keyword inclusion in titles and the first paragraph of your content
  • Refraining from over optimisation (Keyword density of between 2-3% is deemed sufficient)
  • Formatting - Use of H1 and H2, bullet points and emphasis tags
  • Internal and external linking

The above mentioned points, have and always will be the key players in a successful SEO strategy and are a must have throughout your campaign. New tricks and tools will come and go and as tempting as they may be to try; factors including keyword selection and density, H1 and H2's and internal and external linking will give your business the best chance at gaining authority, credibility and those crucial onsite visits.

Whatever 'newbie' comes along, never neglect the classics.

Links

According to Google spam master Matt Cutts, despite a belief that social media is leading the way, links are still the greatest tool in an online strategy.

Ensure your business is easily tracked by Google as an industry leader and authority by obtaining high quality external links and ensuring your internal linking is as smooth as possible.

The latest Panda and Penguin algorithm updates make it clear that your internal and external links must be clean and naturally obtained; if you have been link farming them rectify your mistakes immediately or face the consequences from Google.

Also, don't however, completely dismiss the importance of social media and most particularly Google+. It is becoming increasingly evident that the search algorithm is taking a G+ profile into account so ensure you have a profile set in place, are actively engaging in circles and making as much use of the +1 as possible.

React

As previously mentioned and I cant imagine many disagreeing; online marketing consultants and businesses get all too lost in data but what about the real people? The entire aim of a strategy is to expand one's business and grow a company brand but are you doing everything in your power to reach that end goal?

Whether it is a comment on your blog or a message on your social media site, interact, give back and always talk to your audience because once you build that relationship; it has the potential to last for years!

Is your online campaign ready to face the growing pressures that 2013 will bring?
