Facebook is an internet power to say the least; with over 850 million members and rising, Mark Zuckerberg has established a phenomenal level of control over the way we use the internet which is why if any technology comes along that he wants, is threatened by or simply does not like ; Zuckerberg does what he does best and buys it, shuts it down and we hear no more bout it.

Not too long ago the social media website got their hands on Instagram and the world was shocked to say the least. The application had revolutionised the way we share and take photo's and millions across the world including the rich and famous have been hooked.

When the announcement came that Facebook had purchased Instagram for a whopping one billion dollars, fans of the app were angered at what they had dubbed to be a sellout and fears grew that Zuckerberg would do what he usually does and close down the app. However, days after the buyout an official announcement was made where Zuckerberg and his team declared that Instagram would continue running as it was and surprisingly they 've stuck to their word. It seems that despite the initial furor, people haven't been put off by the buyout as statistics revealed that over ten million new users signed up to the app after Facebook had taken over…surmised? We are.

Facebook has been known to crumble apps and completely ruin the appeal but it seems this time there has been the opposite effect fuelling its rise and proving that this was one hell of a purchase.

We wonder if the creators of the app feel as if they let go too soon? Only time wil tell if the novelty will wear off or Instagram will keep on growing…
