Facebook SEO - PageLever Study Reveals it is Worth the Effort

A study recently conducted by Facebook analytics company PageLever, reveals that 34% of external traffic to Facebook fan pages comes from Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Jeff Widman conducted the study using raw data on external traffic referrals from the Facebook API. He then used the PageLever analytics tool to isolate the search engine referrals.
1,000 fan pages that had at least 10,000 fans were analysed from January 1st 2011 to June 30th 2011. The results showed that 33.98% of external referrals to these fan pages came from the three main search engines, Google, Yahoo, and Bing. This means that search engines made up roughly 9-10% of the total traffic to Facebook pages during this time.
Widman notes that it is surprising that Google sends so much more traffic to Facebook than Bing does (10 times more), considering the official partnership between Bing and Facebook. He also found that the average of the sample was raised by a small number of pages that were receiving a very large percentage of their traffic from search engines. This indicates that SEO for Facebook pages does actually work to boost external referrals to Facebook fan pages.
Optimising a Facebook fan page for search engines requires the same techniques as does SEO for standard web pages. Important factors include regularly updated unique and quality content, a good profile of inbound links and well placed keywords and phrases.

Good luck getting people behind this one. Though you make some VERY fascinating points, you're going to have to do more than bring up a few things that may be different than what we've already heard. What are trying to say here? What do you want us to think? It seems like you can't really get behind a unique thought. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
