Social Marketing Far Beyond Facebook and Twitter

Amongst those who believe that SEO simply refers to ranking highly in Google searches, many hold similar basic views when it comes to social media marketing. Get lots of mentions of Facebook and Twitter and you're well on your way. Whilst in both of these situations these are the desirable outcomes, there is a great deal more to consider as well.

The best place to begin analysing an approach to Social Media, as you would with any form of advertising, is to remember that you are attempting to reach potential customers in their home countries or cities. Sure, Facebook and Twitter have the most users, and certainly the most recognition, but they are not alone in the world of Social Media.

There are numerous figures to support this fact. StumbleUpon issues an incredible amount of outbound traffic, far more than Facebook according to some estimates. LinkedIn attained eighty-five million users when last checked in November, this has most probably now surpassed one hundred million.

Although these staggering figures certainly warrant our attention, you will still need to look at more than just the user numbers. For example, how many of these users are regularly active? How many of them are within your demographic? There is no use marketing your services or products on a site that is enormously popular with young adults or teenagers, when you already have proof that your target audiences are within a completely different age range. Don't neglect your potential customers by narrowing your social media horizons.
