Google: Still strong in 2026?
Since it was first introduced to the world, Google has gone from strength to strength with many rightfully dubbing it the supreme power of the world wide web!
A few hiccups aside, its reign is going strong and good. The search engine has always been about ensuring the user receives the best results and thanks to the highly coveted yet utterly secretive search algorithm it has done just that. But we wonder, in a world where online has never been more important; if Google is still going as strong as ever?
Having revealed its quarterly figures for 2012 it is clear that nothing has, as of yet, managed to trump the search engine with revenue up to ten billion dollars…that says it all doesn't it? But of course where there is good there is bad and even if you're as powerful as Google; there are times where this cannot be escaped.
Reports have revealed that Google's dual class share system which would ensure that Larry Page and Sergey Brin would retain control, in under threat as a result of stock acquisition but what surprise us further was discovering that the company hasn't exactly been truthful in its claims on the number of Google+ users.
With any network, particularly these social networks it is only natural to assume that when user statistics are revealed they are referring to the number of people actively signed up for and using the service but not according to Google!
In its first quarter of 2012 Google revealed that it's plus service has a staggering 170 million users but according to Google chief Vic Gundotra; the users are measured by anyone who simply logs into a Google account…so to put it simply you're exaggerating?
It is no doubt one of the most powerful companies in the world but perhaps it too is suffering at the hands of Facebook …why else would there be such a need to over exaggerate? Surely nobody needs convincing of Google's power but the again during a time where a social media presence is given increasing prominence particularly in online marketing…maybe this is an effort to disguise the fact that Google+ just isn't cutting it?
Only time will tell what the rest of 2012 will bring…
