With Google's latest algorithm change, maintaining a social media presence is now more then ever crucial within an online marketing strategy. Social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube  and Pinterest will be made public and given increasing prominence in SEO which is why it is time to ask; are you doing enough with your social media presence?

Make sure you are engaging with your followers as much as possible and keeping on track of everything. Facebook is now the equivalent of call centres and where current and potential customers will turn to  in order to get questions answered and decide whether it is you they want to do business with. Ensure all questions are answered and all comments are filtered; it takes a lifetime to build a reputation but just one second or one comment to ruin it.

Don't just respond to direct @mentions, keep an eye on everything that is being said about you and get involved in every mention you can find.

By regularly talking to and not at your followers you have more of a chance of engaging followers, improving your statistics and retaining freshness; factors which Google will now be giving further prominence to in search engine results.

Be inventive, people get bored easily and that is a fact so make sure you are doing anything and everything in your power to stay unique. Potentially offer up some freebies, use current news topics to get people talking as well as quirky ways to get people tagging themselves in your posts and images…it all adds up!

These are just a few points but whatever you plan on doing, make sure you are active across the social media board…the more pies you get your fingers into, the sweeter the result.

Don't forget that there is a thin line between using social media the right way and just wasting far too much time. Plan your strategy carefully and your results really can give you that boost.
