Internet Marketing Turns Mobile in 2026

In an article by Patricio Robles on Econsultancy, the discussion once again turns to whether or not it is time for businesses to take investing in mobile platform marketing seriously. As the article rightly points out, until now mobile internet marketing has been more tout than anything else. But it looks like 2011 may finally be the year when it is time to take the plunge.

A survey conducted by SapienNitro, shows that in 2010, mobile shopping was on the rise; making a significant mark during the recent holiday season. Using their mobile phones, consumers were able to locate and take advantage of high street deals, present voucher codes and coupons to provide savings on purchases, and quickly find those must-have gifts on their lists. They also used their mobiles to gather opinion through social networking and texts and emails to friends and family.

According to SapienNitro, "the numbers [presented] reflect that mobile devices are having a major impact not only on the way that consumers shop but also on the way that retailers need to market to consumers.'"

It was also noted in the article that while mobile commerce is still a relatively small activity in the big scheme of things, big retailers like eBay and Amazon can use mobile sites and applications to drive sales in a significant way.

As the mobile phone continues to grow as the preferred on-the-go way for consumers to source information, it becomes increasingly important for companies to ensure that their internet marketing strategies take the mobile into account.
