Electronic Communication Enter's The House of Common's
Further proof of the power of the internet has been announced as it has been confirmed that Ministers in The House of Lords will now be able to receive electronic messages from civil servants as they stand in the despatch box.
It has only been a year since it was announced that hand held devices and tablet PC's were allowed to be used in the chamber and now the new rule shows further understanding of the growth of online media, online marketing and mobile technology as Ministers are now allowed to send and receive messages and search online for information in the middle of a debate.
The news will now doubt be welcomed with relief as members seemed to be tiring of the old fashioned ways of the House that required any questions and messages to be written on paper and carried to ministers; the speed that mobile technology brings, a refreshing change, is an indication of just how dependant our nation and the world, has become on instant communication.
Although the new changes were not in fact put to a vote; Ministers have voiced their approval at what will no doubt improve effectiveness and add a little interest.
The world is becoming increasingly mobile…have you joined the team?
