Mobile phones were initially introduced to the world as nifty little gadgets that provided us with the ability to make calls from where ever we may be (provided that there was a network signal), handy in cases of emergency or just for a good old chat…but not so much anymore.  Now don't get us wrong, of course todays phones allow us to make calls although it appears as though we no longer use the mobile phone for its originally designated purpose.

According to recently released reports; phone calls are number five on a list of functions the mobile phone is now used for. UK Phone company O2, who conducted the research, have revealed that today's smart phone owners now only use their mobile to make an estimated twelve minuets worth of calls a day whilst all their other time is used playing games, listening to music and in the top two respectively; surfing the web and checking up on social network profiles.

The report reveals the increasing importance of mobile technology in everyday life and the desire of the public to remain digital. Gone are the days where the mobile phone withheld one simple function; today the ranging gadgets have dramatically improved, offering a fantastic range of features that the public can no longer do without.

The power of technology is vastly affecting everyday life…perhaps something businesses should consider before they shun social media and mobile optimisation in their online marketing strategies?
