SEO - Do's and Don'ts
by Nigel Copley (comments: 0)
Over on SEO Chat, they've been talking about some of the dos and don'ts for 2011 SEO because, as they rightly point out, if you're still treating SEO like you did in 2003, you're doing it very wrong. So here are three don'ts and a do for SEO content:
Links
- Stay away from link schemes, link farms, link exchanges - call them whatever you want to; but whatever the label, ensure you stay far, far away from them.
- Don't play "hide-and-seek" with your keywords. This means, don't use CSS to hide them; don't hide them over images, don't type them in white on a white background, and don't use teeny text for them.
- Don't overuse keywords. This can be seen far too often; the overburdened article with hundreds of keywords but very little sense. If content is king then keywords are your queen - and she does best when used with a light (and logical) hand. Select a few keywords or phrases and allow them to flow naturally into your content.
Content
Content is king - but only when it's quality; otherwise, it is more like a knave or a serving boy. As Lindsay from SEOmoz says, "Quantity is not quality. More pages in the index does not mean more traffic." So don't publish new pages for all 25,000 keywords you're targeting (and why are you targeting that many keywords to begin with?!). Don't expect every single page of your website to become indexed. Settle for the most important ones, keep building quality content, and move on."
