Contextual Targeting Just Made Easier

Inside AdWords reports that Google has just launched its Contextual Targeting Tool, a canny little tool which can be used to create tighter-themed SEO keyword lists for any of your campaigns running via the Google Display Network.

How contextual targeting works

The fundamentals are simple; enter a set of words or phrases into the contextual targeting tool and it suggests 1) a set of related keywords and 2) suggested grouping of those keywords for themed advertising.

Effective contextual targeting

Themed keywords are the essence of contextual targeting. Google AdWords looks at a set of keywords within a group and then identifies a theme. Then, all of those ads which fall into that theme are matched to web pages. With the new contextual targeting tool, the process of creating tightly themed SEO is made easier. It also makes it easier for Google AdWords to match that SEO with the web pages that have the highest potential to increase your traffic and sales. Consider it a type of "hire a brain." After all, how many of us haven't sat around the table or desk brain-storming keywords?

Who can use the Contextual Targeting Tool?

The new contextual targeting target is available to anyone who advertises using the AdWords Editor. To access it, simply go to your Opportunities tab. For now, it is still necessary to use AdWords Editor to implement any ad groups within your account; however, in the coming months it is expected that process will be made easier.
