Link Building
When trying to grow a brand in today's technological era; online marketing has never been more influential and effective. For those attempting to increase the visibility of their website, they will know just how crucial a task search engine optimisation is and how the link building element of the practice can make or break your success.
Link building is integral to site optimisation however it is a touchy subject as Google tightens its reigns. Ever heard of Panda or Penguin? No, we're not referring to the animals but in fact the latest changes to Google's algorithm; you see, businesses and marketing agencies had the ever so slight tendency to partake in unethical link building in which unnecessary and inappropriate links were created in an effort to 'con' the Google spiders into allocating a higher ranking to their websites (yes, that's cheating) however the whip has finally been cracked.
Google has begun to take control over websites and the quality of their optimisation by asking companies one question; is the link relevant to your website and what your company does? If the answer is no, then don't do it (no matter how good the results could be) as you risk more than a slap on the wrist. Links most now only be off high quality and relevance or Google will punish your site and when you're in the midst of trying to grow your site then this is probably not the route you are going to want to go down.
If you have an in-house or external specialist working on your websites link building then keep you need to ensure they know just what they are doing and won't risk the reputation of your firm. Here are our top three questions to ask your link builder;
- Where and what sort of links will you be buying? This is a tricky one as many companies are in the habit of buying thousands of inappropriate page ranking links, however good quality links can also be purchased. If your link builder cannot determine what a good quality link will be then they won't exactly be working wonders on your site.
- What type of links will improve my ranking and what links will work wonders for building my client reputation? There is a clear distinction between the two and your link builder should be clear on this and know just what your site needs and where.
- How are the different number of links going to accomplish what my site need? The answer to this should be as easy as pie and if not then you may have a problem on your hands.
Good quality link building is essential for the success of an online marketing strategy; ensure whoever is dealing with your online marketing is on the right track.
