Microsoft Enter's the Social Media Market

Ever since Google revealed that it was set to give more prominence to social media in its search results; companies across the board have been introducing popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter into its social media marketing strategies. Social media popularity is at an all-time high and has never been more crucial to business success and now it seems as though Microsoft wants a piece of the pie.

ci is Microsoft's experimental dip into the world of social media and is a service which provides the typical social features along with 'video party mode' and the ability to share search results. The release of the site has simply been described as a test in open search however no doubt the company is hoping ci will be welcomed with open arms so that it may take on the likes of Facebook in the battle to the top spot.

The site incorporates the companies own search engine Bing and enables users to share content collections and links…but hasn't this all been done before? Targeting only the younger generation, ci is attempting to lure those who have yet been pulled in by other popular sites but it creators do not maintain any hint of arrogance or surety but in fact are fully aware that those already drawn by Facebook, Twitter and so on will not be enticed by what Microsoft is offering…the company knows the challenge it faces.

Currently facing mixed reviews; the success of ci is yet to be determined but it is clearer than ever that social media has never been more important to the way we live; are you social yet?
