Wi-Fi on the Underground
Think of the London rush hour and images of cold, miserable looking workers jam packed in tubes like sardines in a tin can is probably the first notion that comes to mind does it not? London is the central hub of the working world which is why it comes as no surprise that the world envisions one big rat race taking place from Trafalgar Square right down to the underground lines.
Home to some of the largest corporations in the world; the London working community is constantly biting for the latest deal, pounding away at emails twenty four seven and rushing from one meeting to the next but there is always that one little thing that holds them back; Wi-Fi access. When constantly travelling up and down, on tube after tube; it can be quite frustrating, not just for workers, but the people of London on a whole to be so blocked off when actively using the underground system however for the first time in history; change is on the way.
Teaming up with Virgin Media; the London underground has officially announced that major service lines including Liverpool Street, Leicester Square and King's Cross will become the first to receive Wi-Fi access; allowing the millions of daily travellers to always remain connected to the online world.
Since its origins; the underground has become synonymous with images of isolation however the move is being welcomed with open arms by businesses and commuters alike. Access to the first initial stations is reported to potentially be up and running within weeks, with a further 80 stations to be fitted with access by the end of July.
With a world so connected and so bound by technology; it is safe to say that online marketing has never been more important to businesses; targeting anyone and now, thanks to the latest announcements, just about anywhere, has never been easier.
